“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’" - Matthew 25:40

Democratic Republic of the Congo

(Portuguese) E, respondendo o Rei, lhes dirá: Em verdade vos digo que quando o fizestes a um destes meus pequeninos irmãos, a mim o fizestes. - Mateus 25:40

Even though Brazil hosted the 2014 World Cup and is set to do so for the 2016 Summer Olympics, there are still many who do not know much about this vast nation largely below the equator. While in my previous line of work, some kind people near where I live told me to tell "gracias" to a group of Brazilian employees I was leading a tour of (in Brazil, the main language is actually Portuguese and the primary way to say "thank you" is "obrigado").

Many also don't know that, unfortunately, despite its vast and near-peerless agricultural, hydropower, mineral, timber and wildlife wealth Brazil has a huge number of people still living at the poverty level or below, with a host of attendant problems (particularly impoverished children and child prostitution - the BBC recently reported that Brazil is unfortunately poised to overtake Thailand in the prevalance of the latter category). Old Town Gifts and Collectibles supports partially (Amazon Mission Organization, Hope Unlimited and Shores of Grace) and wholly (, / ministries spreading the love of Christ to the southern hemisphere's largest nation.

(French) Et le roi leur répondra: "Vraiment, je vous l'assure: chaque fois que vous avez fait cela au moindre de mes frères que voici, c'est à moi-même que vous l'avez fait."- Matthieu 25:40

(Swahili) Naye Mfalme atawajibu, "Amin, amin ninawaambia, kwa jinsi mlimvyotendea mmojawapo wa hawa ndugu Zangu walio wadogo, mlinitendea Mimi." - Matayo 25:40

Like Brazil directly west across the Atlantic Ocean, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (also known as "Congo / DRC" or "Congo / Kinshasa", to differentiate it from the Republic of Congo adjacent to the north and west), Africa's second largest nation, is rich in animals, minerals, timber and water, and especially so with the vibrancy of its people who are known for their fashion and music. Yet, tragically, the Congo not only has much of the same immense poverty many Brazilians endure, but also has been racked by "civil war" on its northeast side for over a decade. Since 1998, an estimated 5.4 million people have died from the fighting, as well as the malnutrition and diseases which accompany a country torn by conflict.

It is in the midst of this that Mwangaza International for 10 years has worked to bring God's word and love to the people of this nation struggling yet beloved by so many of its people.
